To potential applicants, persons interested in PM&R, or those of you who happened to stumble upon the site,
Welcome to the University of Cincinnati Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Resident website. I hope you take some time to explore the site to learn about our program.
As you consider which page you would like to peruse next, let me tell you a little bit about why I decided on residency in Cincinnati. When I looked at programs as an applicant, I wanted to match somewhere that would give me an opportunity to gain experience in all areas of PM&R, from outpatient musculoskeletal medicine to inpatient neurorehabilitation. The University of Cincinnati program offers these diverse experiences and continues to grow new opportunities for learning including most recently expanding into cancer rehabilitation. The two other parts of the program I remember standing out the most were the camaraderie amongst the residents and the dedication of the faculty to teaching. Now that I have been training here in Cincinnati for over four years, I can say that “gut feeling” I had as an applicant about the program here was right.
For some, you may know you are interested in the program, but aren’t sure about the city of Cincinnati. To those people, I would like to tell you that I honestly think Cincinnati will surprise you. I say this confidently because Cincinnati surprised me. Its position at the confluence of three states along the Ohio River gives Cincinnati its own unique combination of cultures. Cincinnati is changing and growing. It is revitalizing neighborhoods and developing new industries. The city of Cincinnati itself is composed of multiple unique neighborhoods, many of which have their own small “downtown.” Living in Cincinnati allows you to choose the neighborhood that fits you best while still having a quick and easy drive to anywhere around the city. I love that I can find opportunities for any activity here, whether that is going for a hike in the woods, enjoying a delicious meal with friends, attending a theater performance, or watching a professional sports team.
At the University of Cincinnati, we offer opportunities to train in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and combined Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine. I love that we have these two excellent training programs that work together to create an even richer experience for us as residents.
I hope you’ll consider getting to know our program better.
