What is PM&R?

 Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R)  or physiatry is a medical specialty that focuses on diagnosis and rehabilitation of patients who experience functional deficits with a goal of improving their function and quality of life. 
PM&R physicians are experts in diseases of the muscle, bone, joint, and nervous system. They work in multi-disciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care for patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Where do PM&R physicians practice?

PM&R physicians practice in many different areas including: 
  • Musculoskeletal medicine
  • Spasticity management & interventions
  • EMG
  • Cancer rehabilitation
  • Care of patients with amputation and limb deficiencies
  • Interventional pain procedures
  • Pediatric rehabilitation
  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Neurorehabilitation (including Stroke & TBI)​
